Every year we embark on this insane endeavor to gather as many children as will come under the banner Vacation Bible School or VBS. Generating excitement for the kids to come is not too difficult. For the most part it is you all (the parents, family and friends of the kids) that hype them up and bring them to the event and we are grateful for you!
What Is Super Summer Time?
Last year was the first time we called VBS- SUPER SUMMER TIME or SST! I did not grow up in an evangelical church so I was in no way familiar with VBS and even after, in the evangelical church I was a part of, they did not call it VBS either. All I ever knew the event as was Super Summer Time and it was just that. I volunteered for the first time just months after I became a believer. The pastor challenged the congregation to serve even if it meant taking the week off work to do it and that is exactly what I did. Having little Bible knowledge and only fervor to carry me along the Spirit of God taught me some deep truths through the more seasoned believers and the lessons that they shared that week at Super Summer Time.
Over the years, I have been part of and even led VBS/SST and I love it every time. To see kids jumping, singing and genuinely happy for 5 days and learning about our Most High God and His Word is like nothing else. It is something to be part of team working together in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform rooms and our sanctuary into another time and place that fits into our SST theme for that week.
What’s This Year’s Theme?
This year’s theme is a bit strange because it is the arctic. How do you set up an arctic scene in the middle of summer! Well, we have some ideas and it never ceases to amaze me, what our volunteers including the youth come up with every year – that and what we find on Pinterest.
If you have, any questions please feel free to email me. We have a vision and informational meeting that should only be 20 minutes or so scheduled for Sunday, June 24 at 12pm. Come, if you would like know what we doing and/or need more information. If you are interested, right after we will have a brief lunch then a meeting to discuss the nut and bolts of SST- assembly, rotation schedule and children’s evangelism.
If you have already decided to be part of our team this year and experience what a blessing SST is and can be in your life, you can register here on our website.
